Pat Almond Memorial Lecture ~ Competition Time

This is a past event

It’s time for the annual set of competitions for children and young people based around the subject of the Pat Almond Memorial Lecture which will take place at 7.30pm in Ayton Village Hall, Wilson’s Lane, East Ayton on Saturday October 6th. This year our guest speaker is Prof. Joann Fletcher, well known Egyptologist, author and TV & Radio Presenter.

So our competitions are all about  Egypt. There are 3 age categories.  If you are between 11 and 16 years of age we would like you to write a story of between 500 and 750 words starting with the sentence “I am Queen Cleopatra’s personal servant. The day began as usual and then……”  The first prize is £30 and you will be awarded a beautiful crystal trophy to keep for a year.

If you are 8 to 11 years old we would like you to draw a picture of an Explorer of Ancient Egyptian Pyramids describing the clothes they are wearing and equipment they need, using labels.

If you are 5 to 7 years old we would like you to draw a picture of an Ancient Egyptian Pyramid.

All entries must be on A4 paper with your name, age, and school on the back.  The deadline for entries is July 16th. Every Junior and Senior School in the area has been sent information about this competition so you can either give your entry to your teacher and it will be collected from the school or if you live near the library in West Ayton you can leave it at the desk.  The trophy and prizes for all age categories will be presented by Prof. Joann Fletcher on October 6th
