Pat Almond ‘Lecture’ Challenge

This year’s Pat Almond Challenge for children and young people is based around the career and interests of our guest speaker, Harry Gration who is giving the Pat Almond ‘Lecture’ on September 23rd in Ayton Village Hall.  Harry is a well-known TV presenter with a keen interest in sport.

So if you are 5 – 7 years old the challenge is to paint a picture of a man reading the news on television.  For 8 – 10 year olds the challenge is to paint a picture of your sporting hero. Please include the name of your hero, the sport that they are famous for and why you have chosen them.  Both paintings must be done on A4 sized paper.  The lucky winners in each category will have their prizes presented to them by Harry on the night of the Lecture.

The challenge for 11 -16 year olds is to write a 500 word newspaper article or feature for TV or radio about the state of libraries in the region. In particular the closure of so many small libraries and the development of community libraries based on the widespread use of volunteers.  The winner of this challenge will receive £30 and a lovely glass award to keep for a year which will be presented by Harry Gration.

Put your name, address and contact phone number along with your age and school on the back of your entry and either send it or deliver it to Derwent Valley BRIDGE Community Library, 3 Pickering Road, West Ayton, Scarborough YO13 9JE.
