Thanks must go to David Hutchinson for his talk on Biochar on 10th January.  We had a full house and it proved to be an informative, amusing and entertaining talk on a cold dark winter’s evening.

“Inspirational” was how one member of the audience described our first talk of 2019 and this opinion was shared by many who had packed into the library to hear a talk about Bio Char. David gave the history of charcoal production explaining the world wide significance that this activity had on the developments from the Stone Age through to the Industrial Revolution. He then described the current potential for the use of charcoal to profoundly affect climate change and pollution by amongst other things reducing the production of methane, the use of nitrates and the need for watering. We will be using Bio Char supplied by David in the library garden this year so watch out for the results.
